Project & Brief
The brief for the Buffalo Grove Village Hall in suburban Chicago was to provide a new structure for the council chambers of the Village of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, as well as remodel various areas within the existing building complex. The Client's slightly unusual request was for the design to be Prairie Style, or the style that Frank Lloyd Wright had originated elsewhere in the Chicago area.
Design Solution
My role in the project was the schematic design of the external façades whilst incorporating the features of this style. In addition, I suggested the prominent entry pavilion to provide a strong visual clue to the new entry location when viewed from either street of its corner site, a signage area to identify the building, and a covered outdoor seating area. The design was well received by the Client and work continued. My role ended at this point, however, as I then moved on to a position at another office.
After hearing nothing of the outcome of the project, I returned to photograph it six years later. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were no apparent design changes from the original sketches.
