Project & Brief

Richard Wilson's role for the Queen Anne Residence was as Project Architect for Sturman Architects. This was a new three level residence perched on the side of Queen Anne Hill with panoramic views of the Seattle CBD, its iconic Space Needle and even Puget Sound (the bay) off to one side. The challenge was to work with a difficult, steeply sloping site and take full advantage of the opportunities it offered.

Design Solution

A thorough site analysis provided direction for the building design. The entrance, parking, and utility areas were kept to the back of the site where access would be easiest. This allowed the spectacular views from the front of the site to be gained from the living room, dining room, kitchen, all bedrooms, and a large deck. The main living areas were then angled to provide the optimal outlook to the city whilst framing a secondary view to the water. The lowest level contained a guest suite and a full professional recording studio with room for a grand piano.
