Richard Wilson's role for these model homes early in his career was as a draftsman for Systems Design Group. His involvement was primarily the drafting of home designs for these housing estates, as well as developing the complex site plans and road networks that these new estates required. In Australia, these designs would be considered very typical "American Style".
Scarsdale Homes, Inc. was a housing developer in the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. The work of the office would begin with the land planning for each new estate. This involved setting out the roads and determining the number and areas of properties, whilst assuring that the builder achieved the numbers he needed to realise a profit. Typically, new model homes with several optional facades were then designed for each new development. These homes were considered semi-custom, since the standard designs could then be modified as the homebuyer desired.
